GEORGETOWN PUBLIC HOSPITAL CORPORATION VACANCY INFECTION CONTROL OFFICER

Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to fill the critical role of Infection Control Officer. This is a senior position that plays a vital part in maintaining patient safety and preventing the spread of infections within one of Guyana’s most important healthcare facilities.

Position Overview

As an Infection Control Officer, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring infection prevention and control programs across Georgetown Public Hospital. This role requires strong clinical knowledge, leadership, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of healthcare hygiene and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Infection Prevention & Control

  • Develop and implement infection control policies and procedures
  • Monitor and oversee infection prevention practices across all hospital departments
  • Conduct regular assessments and audits of infection control measures
  • Investigate infection outbreaks and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with national and international infection control standards

Surveillance & Monitoring

  • Establish and maintain an infection surveillance system
  • Track and analyze infection data and trends
  • Monitor healthcare-associated infections within the facility
  • Report findings to hospital management and relevant authorities
  • Recommend interventions based on surveillance data

Staff Education & Training

  • Develop and deliver training programs on infection control practices
  • Educate staff on hygiene protocols and best practices
  • Conduct orientation sessions for new employees on infection prevention
  • Stay updated on latest infection control guidelines and communicate changes to staff

Policy Development & Compliance

  • Develop and update infection control guidelines and protocols
  • Ensure the hospital adheres to infection control regulations
  • Collaborate with other departments to maintain compliance
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all infection control activities
  • Liaise with public health authorities when required

Patient Safety

  • Ensure a safe and hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors
  • Advise on isolation procedures for infectious patients
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of infection control interventions
  • Support the hospital in maintaining high patient care standards

Requirements

Education & Registration

  • Registered Nurse or Midwife with the General Nursing Council

Experience

  • Five (5) years of post-graduate experience (required)
  • Two (2) years of which must be in a supervisory position (required)
  • Previous experience in infection control or a related healthcare field preferred

Additional Qualifications (Asset)

  • Practical training in Occupational Safety and Health would be an asset
  • Certification or training in infection prevention and control would be advantageous
