Massy Stores is looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Food Safety Officer to join their team in Guyana. If you’re passionate about quality, safety, and making a real difference in the food retail environment, this could be the role for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you’ll be at the heart of Massy Stores’ food safety operations. You’ll monitor and enforce compliance with food safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, while supporting the implementation and maintenance of the company’s Food Safety Management Systems. You’ll be expected to identify risks and recommend practical solutions, coordinate and deliver food safety training to management and staff, and liaise with inspectors, suppliers, and key stakeholders on all food safety matters.
Beyond compliance, you’ll drive continuous improvement by monitoring food quality issues, providing regular updates and annual work plans for FSMS performance, and ensuring the organisation stays aligned with both local and regional food safety regulations.
Who They’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is someone who brings strong technical knowledge and the interpersonal skills to match. You should have a solid understanding of food safety principles and regulations, and be confident working cross-functionally with store and operations teams. You’ll need to be a collaborative team player with a customer-focused mindset, sharp critical thinking skills, and the ability to manage and resolve conflict professionally. Good written and oral communication, planning skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are also essential.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should hold at least 5 CXC subjects at Grades I–III, along with a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Food Science, Health and Safety, Microbiology, Public Health, or a related field from the University of Guyana or any other recognised tertiary institution. A HACCP or Food Safety Certification is also required.
