Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to join our pathology team as a Medical Technologist. This is a specialized and critical role within our healthcare facility, dedicated to supporting accurate diagnosis and patient care through laboratory testing and analysis.

Position Overview

As a Medical Technologist in Pathology, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role requires precision, analytical thinking, and a strong commitment to quality and accuracy within a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Testing & Analysis

  • Perform clinical laboratory tests and procedures in the pathology department
  • Analyze biological samples including blood, tissue, urine, and other specimens
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Ensure accuracy and reliability of all test results
  • Follow established laboratory protocols and procedures

Specimen Handling & Processing

  • Receive, process, and handle patient specimens in accordance with safety standards
  • Prepare samples for testing and analysis
  • Ensure proper labeling and documentation of all specimens
  • Maintain proper storage and handling of biological materials
  • Follow biosafety and infection control guidelines

Quality Control & Assurance

  • Perform quality control checks on laboratory tests and equipment
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory standards and procedures
  • Troubleshoot issues with equipment or test results
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards

Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare and report test results accurately and in a timely manner
  • Communicate critical results to relevant medical staff immediately
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all laboratory activities
  • Collaborate with pathologists and other healthcare professionals
  • Support clinical decision-making through reliable laboratory data

Equipment & Laboratory Maintenance

  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and inventory levels
  • Ensure the laboratory is clean, organized, and properly maintained

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (required)

Experience

  • Experience in a clinical laboratory is preferred
  • Previous experience in pathology laboratory work would be an asset

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety protocols
  • Proficiency in operating laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification or registration in medical technology would be an asset
  • Continuing education or training in pathology preferred
