Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Patient Advocate. This is a meaningful role dedicated to ensuring that patients feel heard, supported, and well cared for throughout their experience at one of Guyana’s premier healthcare facilities.

Position Overview
As a Patient Advocate, you will serve as a bridge between patients and the hospital, ensuring their concerns, needs, and rights are addressed in a timely and compassionate manner. This role requires strong communication skills, empathy, and a genuine commitment to patient wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Support & Communication
- Serve as a point of contact for patients and their families
- Listen to patient concerns and ensure they are addressed appropriately
- Communicate patient needs to the relevant hospital departments
- Provide patients with information about hospital services and procedures
- Accompany and assist patients as needed during their stay
Advocacy & Rights
- Ensure patients’ rights are upheld throughout their care
- Advocate on behalf of patients when concerns or issues arise
- Help patients understand their treatment plans and options
- Support patients in navigating the healthcare system
- Ensure patients receive fair and equitable care
Conflict Resolution & Problem Solving
- Address and help resolve complaints or concerns raised by patients and families
- Mediate between patients and hospital staff when needed
- Work towards positive outcomes for all parties involved
- Escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate management team
- Follow up on complaints to ensure resolution
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of patient concerns and interactions
- Document complaints and outcomes for review
- Prepare reports on common patient issues and trends
- Recommend improvements to enhance the patient experience
- Report findings to hospital management
Coordination & Collaboration
- Work closely with nursing, medical, and administrative teams
- Coordinate with social services when patients require additional support
- Support discharge planning and follow-up care
- Assist patients and families with resources and referrals
Requirements
Education
- Two (2) CXC subjects at General Proficiency including English Language at Grades I, II, or III
Additional Qualifications (Asset)
- Training in conflict resolution would be an asset
- Basic counselling training would be an asset
- Training in healthcare communication would be an asset
